Do you get inspired to sketch on the go, but don’t have time to always get a sketch in when you’re out and about? Intro to Urban Sketching will teach you not only how to sketch on-location in different atmospheres, but also how to sketch from your photos when you don’t have time to sketch in the moment.

In this class, we’ll talk about:

– The art of urban sketching and what makes it different
– The process of building a sketch and where to start
– Different materials to use while on the go
– Which colors to choose for your palette
– How to take a photo so that you can properly draw from it later

Then we’ll get to work on our urban sketching, you may bring some photos that you’ve taken that you find inspiration from if you'd like.

Urban Sketching is an art movement that has swept the world in the last 10 years. Urban sketchers gather together to sketch what they see in their city or in places they visit, posting the results online for all to see, and now you can join them!! Each month, the administrators of Urban Sketchers Cincinnati will host a workshop to help beginning and intermediate sketchers learn new skills and improve old ones. In three different classes we’ll cover topics like color and value, perspective, composition, and sketching people. We’ll discuss how to use different media, materials we prefer, and how to post your sketches online for everyone to enjoy. These two classes will repeat, so if you miss one you can catch it next time. Best of all, you can use your newfound skills in the field with Urban Sketchers Cincinnati the day after the workshop each month (3rd Fridays).
